Leadership

Michael Umscheid, CPA

President & CEO

Mike has been providing accounting, consulting and auditing services to financial institutions for over 30 years. Considered the “CECL Guru”, Mike was selected by the AICPA to create and deliver their 8-hour CPE course on CECL. He is a past member of the Auditing Standards Board and a published author on Accounting and Auditing for Financial Institutions. Mike has spoken at numerous AICPA conferences as well as other national and local financial institution associations. Mr. Umscheid is also the author of the 8-hour CPE course published by the AICPA for CECL.Mike is currently the President and CEO of ARCSys, a consulting firm that specializes in Allowance for Credit Loss software and CECL. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Mike enjoys working out in the morning before work and loves to cook for his family and friends.

Brett Carpenter

Lead Developer and Software Architect

Brett has been with ARCSys since 2010, and is currently our Lead Software Developer. Prior to his time with ARCSys, Brett served as a software engineer for various shipboard navigations systems. He has spoken at various conferences on the use of Java and other software applications. Brett is a graduate of Virginia Tech’s computer engineering program. In his free time, Brett enjoys playing golf and watching his beloved Hokies during football season.

Deborah Rozum

Director of Statistical Analytics

As part of the statistical team, Deborah is responsible for analyzing clients’ data and creating statistical models to meet each clients’ needs. Deborah received her Bachelors of Science in Statistics from LSU in 2018 and a Masters of Science in Statistics from UF in 2021. She brings experience in interpreting statistical analyses and knowledge of working models. In her free time, Deborah enjoys swimming, hiking, and kayaking.

Justin Umscheid

Implementation Team Manager

Justin has a decade of accounting and implementation experience onboarding clients into multiple ARCSys applications including CECL, and the Incurred Loss model. Justin supports our clients with their allowance calculations and answers accounting questions as part of the ARCSys service model. He is a strong believer that helping institutions understand their data and the related accounting aspects are the important parts of an effective business relationship fostering successful outcomes. When Justin is not leading our Implementation Team, he spends time with his daughter, Emma, and loves to play the guitar.

Howard Montgomery

Howard Montgomery

Member of the Board

Howard has over 40 years of progressive financial services industry expertise that includes senior executive positions in the savings and loan, regulatory, investment banking, commercial, and community banking disciplines. He has considerable experience in financial institution start-ups, value creation, turn-around, work-outs, mergers, acquisitions, operations and equity development. Howard holds a BBA in Business Administration and an MA in Real Estate Finance from the Terry College of Business, University of Georgia. He is a former member of the Federal Reserve Bank 5th District Operations Advisory Committee; a founding member of the National Association of Financial Professionals; and a founding member of the National Association of Review Appraisers and Mortgage Underwriters.

Steve has an extensive background in information technology and experience in business intelligence, reporting, and database design. He has worked in a software development capacity with TEKsystems and Delta Dental. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Finance and Economics.

Victor Dean Rodil

Member of the Board

Dean has extensive experience defining strategy, implementing new initiatives, and managing ongoing operations teams with a focus on software development, infrastructure, and risk management. Dean has 18+ years of experience in industry and his career has been focused on large-scale, enterprise IT organizations with a concentration on application development, operations, cybersecurity, and business intelligence. Recently, Dean has worked in strategic consulting primarily focused on mergers and acquisitions, technology diligence, and assessments. Prior to that Dean headed the IT group for a national insurance carrier. Dean enjoys being outdoors, mountain biking and is an avid tennis player. He also enjoys traveling and has visited over 40 states and 19 countries.

Matt Pantera

Matt Pantera

Matt has over 18 years of experience of providing effective finance and accounting solutions to F/S clients. He has led Accounting Policy group on an interim basis to assist with the adoption of accounting guidance and regulation, including various International Financial standards. Matt worked as an Audit Manager at Deloitte & Touche, served as Director of Internal Control at MassMutual Financial Group, and Director of Financial Reporting and Accounting Policy at Sun Life Financial.

Andres Garzon

Andres Garzon

Andres has over 15 years of experience providing accounting, management advisory, and transaction services to public and private companies of all sizes across Banking. He has led numerous engagement teams through complex accounting and operational issues including SEC reporting, financial planning and analysis, regulatory reporting, and process improvement and infrastructure build. He has advised numerous clients on multiple accounting standard implementations in Banking, Insurance, Specialty Finance, and Asset Management industries.

Jillian Morrow

Jillian Morrow

Jillian is a Managing Director in CFGI’s New York office and brings over 8 years of experience serving mid-size and global financial services companies providing technical accounting assistance, operationalization of accounting standards, and financial close support for US GAAP and IFRS. She has extensive experience supporting clients as a trusted advisor in solving problems related to complex technical accounting, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, financial planning and analysis issues, and merger and acquisition transactions. As part of her advisory role, Jillian regularly assists clients in one-off technical accounting transactions. She is currently serving multiple DFAST and mid-size banks adopting CECL in performing gap assessments, developing implementation strategy, understanding data requirements, and documenting accounting policy.

James Nowe

James Nowe

Jim Nowe has over 36 years experience in the commercial banking and regulatory arenas. Jim was a National Bank Examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). He has served as Examiner-in- Charge and Portfolio Manager over community banks, to include problem banks, across the country. Jim has led many targeted examinations focused on commercial credit, to include extensive experience in the Shared National Credit assessing risk in the largest financial institutions. He is also a trained instructor and has provided classroom-based instruction to bank examiners as well as developed course content and course materials for bank examiner training.

Tom Bryan

Tom Bryan

Tom is a seasoned financial services executive, who has spent over 35 years building successful businesses in wholesale commercial banking, capital markets, investment banking, and credit cards. He previously served as CEO of Silverton Bank where he conceptualized and fostered development of multiple successful software solutions for the bank. Tom has been instrumental in developing the CECL for Investment product. Tom is a graduate of Livingston University.
